Project Brief

I was supplied with an open brief - simply given the song and asked to come up with concept(s) for its music video.

The song itself was the source of the inspiration for the video's central idea - its lyric, melody, emotional progression provided the basis, which was then expanded upon in more detail over the development period.

Project Innovation / Need

The video is innovative in its combination of the various artistic media in the one project - graphic design, body art, cinematography and stop motion animation.

The video straddles the divide between 'art' and 'commerce', and so has been embraced by the mainstream despite its 'alternative' and unusual style.

Design Challenge

The project was low on budget and high on ambition. Many elements hadn't really been done or tested before - such as the combination of a split screen using both stop motion and live action. However, the musicians and client were very open and generous with their time and patience and this allowed the team the room to work at their best.

Sustainability

Minimal crew, minimal waste of all resources. We shot in one location, overlapping roles of all members of the team.
