Project Brief
Touch is a multifunctional lighting product, which adapts to a variety of uses and situations. Touch comes in pendent, chandelier and table versions. Touch was born from an aspiration to work with new processes and to collaborate with a glass blowing artisan. The outcome is a pendant offering diverse flexibility in both function and materiality. Touch is available in an anodised aluminium and a glass finish with an optional shade, which slides over the glass version to provide a more directional light. Various chandelier options and configurations are possible across the material range. The cord in the table version of Touch slides through the pipe stand allowing the user to adjust
Project Innovation / Need
Touch's main point of innovation is its ability to adapt to a number of interior environments. With a number of material finishes and configurations the Touch product provides a feature light source in any space.
Design Challenge
The main design challenge with the Touch products was the manufacturing processes. A two part mold was produced to create the aluminium spun pendant. This mold was also used to create another mold which was used to blow glass into. The glass blowing process required a lot of experimentation to get the final result. This experimentation process was all part of the journey with project and was a rewarding collaboration between designer and glass blower.
Sustainability
The Touch product is designed and manufactured locally in Melbourne.
