Project Overview

What is a ticket doing or could I ask what is a ticket can do after used? When I saw many discarded tickets on buses, bus stops, train stations or garbage bins. I was thinking about if it can be recycled as waste paper, the discard tickets will be a valuable recycled resource. Combined with new design concept and traditional jewellery technique, a piece of ordinary ticket becomes a wear object. Garbage can be recycled, this is the most typical characteristic of sustainability design theme.

It is reflect on a feeling of life from a designer and assurance of design details to achieve the design inspiration for what I want and my design mind always from different aspect of design or art area. As the main designer of CCD, to be strived for my design can approve in different design and art area is my dream. Be unified and coordination of each field of design and art, that is the theme of my team purpose. Cooperation is very important, thanks for that with a good communication between different industries. They are enriched my mind and let me know what is design in my own world. A lot of thanks for my lecture give me many interesting suggestions and at the end these positive suggestions help me to solve many problems like the technical making process of my project making. Also thanks for my classmates, they are played a role that cannot be ignored in my design project, because they encouraged me and support me a lot just from a different way.

Project Brief

Have you been thinking about how to use the discard tickets to make something? My design concept will be following a clear and much more eco-friendly way to develop my design project. I have been decided to select some materials which can be recycled with an environmentally friendly working process to running my sustainability project. Then an idea which using the train tickets to create the jewellery objects were formed in my mind. When I caught bus or stood in some train stations or bus stops. I always found some used train tickets on the ground. Then I was thinking about if the tickets have some paper composition, do they can be recycled as the waste paper. And is that ok for reused into the jewellery design. So, I had picked many tickets from train stations, bus, bus stops or any other places which I could find the discard tickets. Then I had created my design project and draw them on my sketch book. Less is more - This is my design principle, also my need reflect my design work have the eco-friendly design concept. Just glued each piece of ticket to form a hard cardboard and saw out the shape for what I want. The making process was simple and traditional for my project works. There was no energy cost, no pollution, easily making process. Then I try to realize this project as much as possible to get a maximization way of sustainability and environmental protection.

Project Innovation / Need

This is a good commercial value product. First it is eco-friendly for our environment; the materials are all come from the used tickets. Second, I have rethought my design concept; I would like to accord the original patterns from tickets surface to design different types of jewellry. This is easy to get some memorable pieces of tickets from these patterns, such as some have anniversaries or activities of festival patterns on the tickets surfaces. Third, a lower production cost, do not need many complex production process. Also it is easy to change to the mass produce by manufacturing industry. With a significant improvement of the manufacturing technology, the production costs get a great reduce and save much more time for making process. Then the sell price will be much cheaper than before and the public become more accept this production. Personal, I'm bullish on the sale market of this ticket jewellery. I believe this is an eco-friendly way for the environment protection and save resources. The material is known to the public and due to the material is easy for recycled and reused. The standard cost is lower, so the price would be cheap and more easily accepted by public.

Design Challenge

We always say what is the market need, but do we really understand what is the market? If we understand the market, then we can go to find out what it is that the market demands. Present, the popular trend is sustainability production; this is the market need. People awareness of sustainability is improved by a strong media publicity and many products are beginning to develop their own recycling pieces. My project has a good reflected of this popular trend; these used tickets are the entire good recycled material source. The key is how can we reuse them and where can we reuse them. Personally, I will from my own professional way to research and develop the using value and commercial value of discard tickets. I think it is time to explain how to design and create a waste thing become everyone can wear object. Also, this is a challenge for a designer’s ability level, design mind, inspiration and design concept. Now I'm looking forward to running my project in the industrial manufacturing. I have been studied how to change my works from the simple hand making to mass produce and currently there is one of the important research direction which I am pushing myself to achieve is the breakthrough of innovative manufacturing technology. So the pressure of design challenge is heavy for my project. But I’m happy to do this. Because my project works are not only for the sustainability design, but also for our life.

Sustainability

The used tickets will be a kind of sustainability resource in my mind. From my major to consider the tickets, they are good material and resources for the sustainability jewellery. If these tickets are some paper composition, it sounds like we discard many papers on the ground. And if we have collected the discarded tickets together, they will be a kind of considerable and valuable renewable resource in our life. Cleaned and bonding tickets got together by the first heavy pressure; then according different design themes to make them into different thickness cardboards. The adhesive which used for agglutinate tickets together is more clean and environmental protection. The technique gets low energy consumption, both without welding process. This is making a simple step to save the energy cost and get a good environmental protection function. At the same time, this production process will be working in the industrial production, a large-scale manufacturing. But the energy cost still lower and can be achieve the recycling of ticket use.
